We have all the details on what will be hot this season when it comes to eye makeup trends, as well as step-by-step instructions on how to achieve each one to have you looking flawless in no time. We spoke with Nordstrom Beauty Director Laksmi Sam on what will be the best looks this season, what makeup techniques can be used and product recommendations for each trend for everything from your brows to your lashes.
Eyebrows
“A full but polished brow is the look for fall,” says Sam.
Achieve the look
-Choose the right products (pencil, powder or pomade, depending on how dramatic you want the look to be) in a shade that’s close to your hair color or just a tad lighter.
-Follow the natural shape of your brows using light, short strokes, concentrating at the front and the ends of your brows.
-It’s always easier to start off with a more natural look and then advance into more drama, if you want.
-Always brush through your brows if you feel they’re too dark or intense. This will soften the look immediately and will give a more natural feel.
Product Recommendations
My favorite brow product [is] Anastasia Brow Wiz to fill in and create my perfect brow shape. It’s just the right texture and has the perfect amount of pigment, plus it comes in so many colors that you’ll find a perfect match for your hair color every time.
When I want a flawless brow look, I use Anastasia Base One Pro Pencil as a highlighter on the browbone to really add some contrast and make that browbone pop.
Eyelashes
Sam says: “Long, thick lashes are the perfect complement to the modern winged eyeliner. When it’s party time or you have a special event, false eyelashes are a great way to add a bit of flair to your look.”
Achieve the look
-Choose fake lashes with a nice length and width, and apply them as close to your lashline as possible.
-Allowing the lash adhesive to get slightly tacky (about 15 seconds) prior to setting them on your lashes will give you a bit more control.
-The finishing step is to go over the lashes with eyeliner to blend the seam into your natural lashline, and voilà! You’re all set.

Liner & Shadow
“A smoky eye or a modern winged eyeliner are on trend for the season,” says Sam.
Achieve the look
You just need a light, medium and dark eyeshadow to create a smoky eye:
-Apply the medium shade on your eyelid, starting at the lashline and going just up to your crease. Blend well.
-Using a deep charcoal, navy, eggplant or black shade on the outer edge of the eye, blend inwards towards the center of the eyelid.
-Use the light shade under the eyebrow to add depth and dimension. Liner and mascara complete the look perfectly.
-For the modern winged eyeliner, use a liquid liner or cream liner with a brush.
-Start on the inner corner of the eye and lightly glide your liner across your lashline. At the very end of your eye, give the liner a slight upward flick for a flirty effect.
-If it’s not perfect, don’t worry: Take a cotton swab with makeup remover and clean up where you need to.
-Finish the lashes off with mascara for that extra polish.
